Table Talk this Fall

Please join us in praying about our Table Talk program for this Fall. We believe it will be an exciting, transformational time as we celebrate the refugee communities of Amarillo! Here are the details we know so far:

We plan to begin on September 2, meeting each Thursday from 6–7:30. We’ll share a potluck meal and learn about a particular refugee culture. Each week will be focused on honoring a particular group, so we will feature their foods and tell some of their stories together. After the meal, a childcare program will be offered.

After we learn about the culture of that group, we’ll hear a story that we’ve collected from that community. It might be a folktale, or a story of escape, or some vignettes from their childhood in their home country. After we hear that story, we’ll work together as a group to improve it, asking questions about what we don’t understand, seeking extra details, etc. This story will then be edited into a storybook to become part of our collection of the stories of Amarillo’s refugees! We’ll close the night in smaller groups getting to know one another and learning more about their cultures.

Please pray with us as we invite refugee communities to join us for particular nights. We want to make sure we get the right people! Pray for financial provision so we can make this work with our budget. Pray that we find a childcare coordinator who can manage that piece of the program. And pray that as we connect at a deep level with refugee communities, trust will be built and new relationships & mentorships will be catalyzed!
