That’s a wrap!

Did you know?

It’s safe to say that most of you know about the main things we do as an organization — ESL classes, interpreting, storybooks, a community center, culture stuff… But did you know that our reach often extends outside of Amarillo? Take our Executive Director, for example. Dr. Pennington serves Dallas International University as an Associate Instructor training future Bible Translators. This past semester, he helped teach a dozen students around the world a graduate Semantics & Pragmatics course, equipping translators to understand how meaning is constructed in language. Ryan helped his students wrestle with lexical and structural ambiguities, how the meanings of sentences change in different contexts, and how culture influences our understanding of a text. For example, they discussed Psalm 24:3–4, which says that only those “who have clean hands and a pure heart” can stand in the holy place of the Lord. Among the Salt-Yui of Papua New Guinea, the phrase “clean hands” leads readers to think it’s referring to laziness. Only lazy people would have clean hands! By understanding these issues, translators are more likely to produce accurate translations. Your support helps make this happen!

TPG brings in over $50,000!

Wow! Friends, we are so excited to celebrate with you the amazing success of our campaign during The Panhandle Gives. Because of YOU, we eclipsed our goal and landed at $50,051 before amplification funds are added! We should know those numbers today. The generosity of our community here in Amarillo and of many others from across the US really blew us away this year. If you gave at our fundraiser or during The Panhandle Gives, we say thank you! We are eagerly anticipating what the Lord is planning through RLP for 2025, and are better equipped to faithfully steward that vision because of your support.

If you haven’t had a chance to give yet, please consider a year-end gift to RLP. We would be honored by your support to continue to use language as a doorway to welcome displaced people for the flourishing of the community and the glory of God. Tap below to give a one-time or recurring gift.
